Why Jaipur is Called the Pink City


Jaipur is the capital of India’s largest state called Rajasthan. Rajasthan is very colorful state like Jodhpur city is called ‘blue city’, Jaisalmer is called ‘yellow city’ and Jaipur is called ‘pink city’. Jaipur got this title because the forts, houses and many historical places are painted pink in the year 1876. The prince of the Wales and queen Victoria had a tour to India. The king of Jaipur Maharaja Ram Singh was one of the richest and powerful kings of the India. To welcome Lord Albert, the king painted the whole city in pink color. He chose pink because it shows the hospitality and welcoming. The king also constructed a lavish concert hall and named it after the prince.

The city still maintains the tradition of pink color because the queen of the Jaipur convinced the Maharaja to pass a law to paint the buildings in pink. The law was passed in 1877 and is still followed by the people of the city.

Jaipur was the first planned city of India in ancient times. It is planned according to Vastu Shasta (architecture) by Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya and it is famous worldwide. The city has so many historical museums, monuments, temples, forts and lakes. The city is so maintained by the government and the people.

City Palace– It’s a combination of Rajput and Mughal architecture. It has a huge collection of costumes, weapons, handcrafted products of royal families.

Choki Dhani– It is the best place to enjoy the Rajasthani culture. They provide the Rajasthani food. You can enjoy folk dance there and relax.

Amer, Jal mahal, Birla planetarium, Albert hall museum, Central park, Sun temple are the most visited places by the tourists.
